Rebooting Your Crestron Remote Like a Pro

Quick Reboot Tips To Get Your Crestron Remote Working Like New Again

When your Crestron remote freezes, lags, or stops responding, it can be frustrating, especially when you just want to start a movie or adjust the music.

Most remote issues can be fixed without a service call, so it’s important to know how to reboot your Crestron TSR-310 (or similar model) so you can get back in control in minutes.

A Soft Reboot is the Most Likely, Easiest Fix

A soft reboot is a quick way to clear minor software hiccups without wiping your settings. This should always be your first step.

Option 1 – Button Combo

  • Press and hold Power + Home for 5–7 seconds.
  • The remote will vibrate, then restart automatically.

Option 2 – Menu Command

  • Tap the Setup gear icon.
Scroll to Reboot or Restart and confirm when prompted.

Both methods refresh the remote’s operating system and clear temporary glitches. It’s the first place to start when trying to fix unresponsive screens, laggy menus, or minor connectivity issues.

If It’s Fully Unresponsive, Go For A Hard Reboot (Power Cycle)

If your Crestron remote won’t respond at all, a hard reboot forces it to restart by cutting power.

  1. Remove it from the charger or dock.
  2. If your model has a removable battery, take it out for about 10 seconds.
  3. Reinsert the battery and wait for it to boot. If it doesn’t, hold Power or Home for 5 seconds.

This is for those “nothing’s working” moments when even a soft reboot won’t help.

Factory Resets For When You Really Need a Fresh Start

A factory reset erases all your custom programming, including speaker settings, input assignments, and smart home integration, restoring the remote to its original state. Only use this when troubleshooting serious or recurring issues.

  • Press and hold Power + Home + Menu for about 10 seconds.
  • When the reset screen appears, choose Factory Reset and confirm.

Once the process finishes, you must reconfigure your system or have your integrator reload your settings.

Tips for Other Crestron Remote Models

The process is often similar if you’re using a model different from the TSR-310. Look for a physical reset button or try combinations involving Power and one or two main buttons. Always check your manual for the correct procedure before attempting a reset.
